Publix now supports contactless payment method - Apple Pay

Publix has officially enabled their terminals to support contactless payment. This will enable credit cards, smart phones and smart watches to pay without having to insert your card. With our testings, no PIN codes are required. This is a similar behavior at Target.

No fingertips are required, simply hold your smartphone close to the reader with the contactless payment icon and it will automatically accept your payment.

How to use it on an iPhone:

T o use your default card, double-click the side button, then glance at your iPhone to authenticate with Face ID, or enter your passcode.

Hold the top of your iPhone within a few centimeters of the contactless reader until you see Done and a checkmark on the display.

How to use it on an Apple Watch

To use your default card, rest your finger on Touch ID.

The Ring Doorbell app on Android is stealing your personal informations

A company such as Ring with a strong emphasis on security and privacy was found out to be spying on it's user. An article by Bill Budington on eff.org has revealed sensitive third party code included on Rings android app. The following four tracking / marketing company were found: Facebook, AppsFlyer, Brach and most dangerously MixPanel who collects the most data:

Full user names
Email Addresses
What device you are using and on which software version
Whether Bluetooth has been enabled or disabled
The number of locations saved inside your Ring app and what models are installed

These informations are used to create a fingerprint for the individual person. This fingerprint can be followed throughout the world wide web and be used by marketing companies to spam you with ad's and tailored campaigns. Facebook has to be found collecting your data whether you do have a Facebook account or don't.

This is a serious finding and harms all Ring costumers who are currently using the Android app. It's not clear whether this is happening on iOS or not.

On January 14th, 2020 Microsoft has officially stopped supporting Windows 7

What does End of Life Support mean? This usually results in no more bug fixes, security patches or new functionalities. This makes you more vulnerable to phishing attacks and malware. Sometimes other major companies such as Google Chrome or Firefox may discontinue their support for Windows 7 and enable a much greater risk when browsing the web.

Should you be worried? Yes and no. You can still continue using your PC with Windows 7 by using an up to date virus program. But it's certainly time to upgrade your personal PC to Windows 10 to ensure compatibility and quick security updates.

Waterside Shops Apple Store opens August 24th in Naples, Florida

It's been a long time! The Apple Store in the Waterside Shops is set to open on August, 24th.

For many our customers this Apple Store is the most local one and has been under construction since September 2018. The nearest one in Coconut Point has been no exception since it features the same small layout, tiny, overcrowded and long appointment times.

This new store will reflect Apple's new store design language. Elegant stone walls with a glass facing entry from top to bottom. It will also include Apples new gigantic video wall for at Apple Today and other presentations.

Opening Date: August 24th at 10:00 AM.

Arlo Camera now supports HomeKit

Arlo has finally added HomeKit Support to their Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 cameras

After a dozen of empty promises Arlo has finally updated their base stations with the model numbers VMB4000 and VMB4500 to reflect the changes with HomeKit. This will add support for the Arlo Pro and Arlo Pro 2 cameras. This is the first time Apple has allowed wireless cameras to be available in HomeKit.

After you have updated your base station firmware through the Arlo App, you will also have to update the Arlo app itself through the App Store. This will allow you to add each camera to HomeKit. Their sensors will also be available in the Home App.

Apple has announced a new feature at WWDC 2019. HomeKit iCloud Storage. It's currently unknown if Arlo will support it. It will safely upload your video clips to the iCloud without having to rely on another Cloud subscription.

In a recent report by Bloomberg it was discovered that workers from Amazon are listening to recordings from you to improve their algorithms.

Let us show you how to protect yourself and enabling some security.

Opt out and mute the microphone.

While these smart speakers are used to listen to your practiced words and sayings, but how do you know for sure it's always interpreting these wake up calls correctly and recording them? The blue signal around the Alexa show's you when it's listening to you but you don't always keep an eye on it. Therefore push the simple mute button on top when you need some privacy.

Another way is to opt out of these "algorithms improvements". That's something we always suggest to our clients in order to prevent any unauthorized data usage or "spying".
